Description
This series, designed especially with women in mind, is being hosted by the Richland Area Chamber & Economic Development. Each month, we gather for a time of powerful networking, a motivational "TED-type" talk, as well as a chance to learn more about our community.
This series is especially important for our women members because it empowers them with practical tools, confidence, and perspective to lead effectively at work and in the community. It also fosters connection among women professionals, reminding them that their voices, experiences, and leadership styles matter—and that growth is strongest when it’s shared. We look forward to having you join us!
Servant Leadership in Government and Public Service
Leadership takes many forms, but the most effective leaders never lose sight of the people they serve.
Join us for an inspiring luncheon with State Representative Marilyn John as she shares her journey through public service—from serving as Mayor of Shelby and Richland County Commissioner to her current role as Majority Leader in the Ohio House of Representatives. Through stories, lessons learned, and firsthand experiences, Representative John will explore the principles of servant leadership, the value of listening to constituents, and the importance of giving back to the communities we call home.
Whether you're a business leader, community volunteer, elected official, or simply passionate about making a difference, you'll leave with valuable insights on leadership, service, and the impact one person can have on their community.
Meet our speaker:

State Representative Marilyn John is serving her third term in the Ohio House of Representatives, representing Ohio’s 76th House District, which includes all of Richland County.
In the 136th General Assembly, Representative John serves as Majority Floor Leader as part of the Speaker’s leadership team. She also serves on key committees such as Finance, General Government, Insurance, Workforce and Higher Education, and Rules and Reference.
Representative John brings extensive public service experience to the legislature. Prior to her election to The Ohio House of Representatives, she served as Mayor of the City of Shelby, first elected in 2009, before being elected Richland County Commissioner in 2015.
Her professional background includes work in both business and community leadership. While earning her MBA, she worked as a Commercial Lines Underwriter at Shelby Insurance Company and later served as Executive Director of the Shelby Senior Center.
A graduate of Plymouth High School, Representative John earned an Associate Degree in Business Management from North Central State College. She later completed both a bachelor’s degree in business management and marketing and a Master of Business Administration from Ashland University.
Representative John is a lifelong resident of Richland County. She and her husband, Kevin, have been married since 1995 and are proud parents of two children.
