Film Screening: "is Anybody Listening?"

The Veterans Club at Ohio State Mansfield/NC State, in cooperation with the Ashland County MHRB & the Listen to a Veteran Project, is pleased to offer a film screening of Is Anybody Listening? The documentary film is the journey of Paula J. Caplan who couldn't remember the stories her father, Jerome Caplan, told of being a Captain in an all-Black battery in The Battle of the Bulge. Her inability to remember those stories led her to listen to hundreds of veterans. Her concern that veterans' deeply human reactions to war and rape being diagnosed as mental illness drove her to set up free sessions throughout the nation for a nonveteran to listen in wholehearted, respectful silence to whatever a veteran wanted to say, reducing veterans' soul-crushing isolation and nonveterans' illiteracy about war and rape. Paula takes us on a journey through interviews with veterans, including Sgt. Issac Pope, a 96-year-old Black man who served with her father, as well as archival footage and visual art. We hope you can join us for this very moving documentary open to the public.The event will be held in 151 Riedl Hall (Conard Performance Hall) on the Ohio State Mansfield/NC State campus and is free and open to the public.
