Description
The Ohio State Mansfield/NC State campus, in cooperation with the NECIC, the local chapter of the NAACP, and the Area Agency on Aging are pleased to bring Black History Month events to our community. The historical adversity experienced by many of African American ancestry often translates into the socio-economic disparities of today. Those who are impoverished, food insecure, and/or have come from an environment of substance abuse and incarceration are at higher risk of poor mental health. While the need for utilizing mental health resources, is staggering, how likely are African Americans to use those resources? Join us in this thought-provoking panel discussion as we explore the issues of mental health within the African American community. Moderator: Ashley Benson, Director of TRIO Student Services at North Cental State College. Panelists: Joe Trolian, Executive Director of Richland County Mental Health & Recovery Services Board; Leah Jones, Regional Representative for U.S. Senator Sherrod Brown; Dr. Walter Jordan, Senior Pastor of Oasis of Love Church, Tessa Bianchi, Counselor for New Directions Student Assistance Progam; and Arielle Gibson, Student President of No More on the Ohio State Mansfield/NC State campus.
