SUMMARY:2019 Fall Workforce Summit
DESCRIPTION:The Fall Workforce Summit will include 2 presentations that are focused on current workforce issues\, with a networking lunch in the middle. You are welcome to come to the first session and then lunch\, lunch and then the second session\, or stay for the entire event! \n\n\n\nThe first program will be Kerry Koontz\, the Career Counselor at Van Wert High School. Kerry has developed a powerful and rapidly growing internship and work-experience program called "CEO" (Career Education Opportunity). In its 4th year\, the program has over 75 interns from the High School working in a wide variety of environments. \n\n\n\nMore about CEO: The CEO program is offered to seniors as an elective course where students are released during the school day and partnered with either a teacher to provide educational experiences or local businesses which will provide internships\, apprenticeships\, or other business opportunities. Students have the opportunity to learn the skill sets that are necessary for a specific career and learn the soft skills necessary in the workforce. Students will complete the course knowing the type of post-secondary education/training required in their career field. \n\n\n\nThe session following lunch\, the Women's Fund of Greater Cincinnati Foundation will be presenting a Tool Kit for employers to help companies learn to better understand their employees and how best to support and develop them so that the employees become engaged in their jobs and committed to the company and its success.\n\n\n\nMore information: Entry-level employees often have trouble keeping low-wage hourly jobs even when they are qualified for the work. They face challenges in managing their lives and their jobs that their employers may not be aware of or familiar with. The Took Kit suggests policies and strategies to promote retention and overcome challenges for both parties.
